What is knee osteoarthritis?
Knee osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage on the bone ends gradually wears down, causing the bones to rub together, leading to pain, stiffness and reduced mobility.
The disease progresses silently and is often overlooked in its early stages, when symptoms are still mild and transient.
Early warning signs
Dull pain during movement that eases with rest; morning stiffness under 30 minutes; a grinding sensation when bending the knee; mild swelling around the joint.
When these signs appear, patients should see a Musculoskeletal specialist for proper assessment and advice.
